     TACTILE TOURS FOR VISITORS WITH VISUAL DISABILITIES
   
         PIAZZA DEL CAMPIDOGLIO
 

Inside Palazzo Nuovo, on the ground floor, there is a specially equipped room with a tactile tridimensional plastic model of the Square with its three palaces, where visitors will be able to touch and explore the plan of the square and the three façades overlooking it, with an enlarged detail of the front section of Palazzo dei Conservatori ( see photographs under the heading “ Teaching Aids”). This project was developed by the Museum Association  with the assistance and advice of a Capitolini Museums expert executive , Dott.ssa Maria Dell’Era, and was carried out by  the firm Unoauno s.r.l. thanks to the financial support of the roman Associazione Amici dei Musei and Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Roma.

                                  TACTILE TOURS FOR VISITORS WITH  VISUAL DISABILITIES 

                                                           PALAZZO NUOVO
   

In the Capitolini Museums (Palazzo Nuovo) a first new “Touch Tour” is now available for blind and partially sighted visitors, based on the use of the guide book I Capolavori della Scultura Antica  (Ancient sculpture masterpieces) and of an audio CD , allowing the handling of the following sculptures.

  4. Pitagora

  5. Young Centaur (tactile panel)

  6. Old Centaur (tactile panel)

  7. Child choking a goose

  8. Endymion’s sarcophagus

Enter Palazzo Nuovo and walk along the right wing of the Gallery leading to the Monumental Staircase. On its left side, before climbing up, you will find a relief tactile map of the ground floor and first floor. Then, climb the stairs to the first floor and you will find, on your right, another plan with detailed information about the tour.The guide book I Capolavori della Scultura Anticawith printed and Braille characters and relief drawings can be bought (in Italian) at the bookshop (5 Euros). Free disposable rubber gloves to wear in tactile explorations are available at the Ticket Office.

PALAZZO DEI  CONSERVATORI
 

A “ Touch Tour” of the Palazzo dei Conservatori ( in the Capitolini Museums) is available for blind  and partially sighted visitors. The tour is based on the use of the guide book  “L’Appartamento (The Apartment) and of the attached audio CD.

The printed and Braille guide book “L’Appartamento”, with relief drawings and audio CD guiding blind visitors through its pages, is available on request ( in Italian) Please contact directly the Museum Association. TACTILE TOURS FOR VISITORS WITH  VISUAL DISABILITIES 
     
GALLERIA LAPIDARIA AND TABULARIUM

The touch tour includes the tactile exploration of three panels with Braille and printed large size characters  for visitors with impaired vision, and a tactile model of Palazzo Senatorio. Another “Touch Tour” is available inside the Galleria Lapidaria ( ancient stone tablets on display) for blind and partially sighted visitors using the guide book Messaggi dalla Pietra” (Messages from Stones) together with an audio support.


         GALLERIA LAPIDARIA

  1. The Languages  -  Relief with an inscription/dedication to the gods Malakbel and Aglibol

  2. The Grave  -  Stone aedicule with portraits ( tactile panel)

  3. Professions and Trades  -  ( tomb stone of a craftsman who made wreaths of flowers)

  4. The Game  -  (stone tablet  with the so called “game of the REGES”)

  5. The Cult  -  (stone in memory of a lightning striking at night)

  6. The Cult  -  ( stone dedicated to the goddess Caelestis)

  7. The Military  -  (relief dedicated to Silvano and to the Corps of Equites Singulares)

  8. The Aristocracy  - ( base of a statue of Quintus Aurelius Simmacus)

  9. Base of a statue dedicated to Adrian  by the Vicomagistri (tactile panel)

TABULARIUM

  1. Resin tactile model of Palazzo Senatorio and of the Tabularium.  The interior can be explored by lifting the structure, and  a removable board underneath, showing plan and description of theTabularium,  can be easily pulled out.

  2. View over the Forum  (tactile model)

The tour starts at the Galleria Lapidaria where a variety of epigraphic materials may be touched (see the guide book). In particular, two panels reproducing  a Cinerary Urn in form of aedicule, which is the first item on the right, and the Vicomagistri base at the end of the gallery, also on the right.Climbing to the Tabularium there is a tactile model of Palazzo Senatorio and Tabularium on the left. A relief plan can be pulled out from its base, on a front drawer : it shows the position of the palace in the layout of Piazza del Campidoglio . As you proceed towards the portico overlooking the Forum you will find on your left a tactile panel of the View over the Forum,  pointing out the different monuments which can be seen  looking out from the Tabularium itself .
